At Consolidated Automotive Services of Indiana, we process vehicle title transfers across all 50 states. While each state has similar document requirements, there are often varied and miscellaneous certificates, registrations, and other forms that may be needed. Our team is well-versed on the specific documentation each state requires for the transfer process. To help make it easier for our clients, we’ve included a list of paperwork that is always required when transferring ownership of vehicles from one customer to another.
1. Title Documents
When transferring a vehicle from the seller to the buyer, the original title needs to be signed by the seller and re-assigned to the new owner. We take care of processing this title transfer request. All you need to do is gather the correct signatures.
2. Insurance Forms
In order to permanently transfer the vehicle title to the buyer, proof of insurance for the new owner must be included with the signed title. A title cannot be transferred to the buyer without this essential documentation.
3. License Information
A copy of the new owner’s driver’s license needs to be included with the vehicle title transfer packet. If the seller and buyer live in the same state, and the buyer would like to keep the same license plate, our office needs the vehicle’s registration or tag number as well.
4. Other Documentation
Depending on the state in which the vehicle title is being transferred, there are other forms that may be required. We may ask for a number of documents, including:
- Bill of sale or invoice
- Reassignment form.
- Notarized power of attorney
